World-class endurance athlete and ultrarunner, Lisa Smith-Batchen has competed in countless races around the world. She is the only American to have won the Marathon des Sables, a 160-mile stage race through the Sahara. She has completed Badwater nine times (a race through the most extreme conditions and elevation changes imaginable), including a double and quad crossing (i.e. 584 miles), and has won the race twice. Lisa Smith-Batchen is also the first person to run 50 miles in each of the 50 states, which she did to specifically raise money for orphans. In April of 2016, she set out to try and set the record for the fastest crossing across the USA, from Los Angeles to New York City. On day 5 she was rushed to the hospital where she ended up having emergency surgery to remove her gallbladder!
Co-owner and founder of the Dreamchasers Foundation, she and her husband Jay Batchen offer personalized training and camps to help other athletes achieve their goals. 100% of the proceeds go to the Dreamchasers Foundation and to Aids Orphans Rising.
